Asset Manager

Asset Manager

Asset Manager is VSEC’s inventory system for organizing the vehicles, features, and components you test and monitor. It gives your team a shared, structured view of the assets in your fleet — with flexible property tracking, parent-child hierarchies, and direct integration with VSEC’s risk management and testing tools.

Core Concepts

Assets

An asset is any product, system, or component you want to track in VSEC. Each asset belongs to a type, carries a set of properties (like keywords, interfaces, or ownership), and can be linked to parent or child assets to form a hierarchy.

Asset Types

Types define what kind of thing an asset is. VSEC ships with three built-in types — Vehicle, Feature, and Component — and you can create your own custom types as needed.

Asset Properties

Properties are the fields that belong to each asset type, such as Product Owner, Keywords, or Interfaces. VSEC includes a set of default properties and lets you define your own with custom data types.

Enrichment

Asset Manager includes an AI-powered enrichment system that can automatically generate asset structures and fill in property values based on a name and type. Multiple providers are available — Deep Harbor (Block Harbor-hosted), Claude (Bring Your Own Key via Anthropic), and Gemini (Bring Your Own Key via Google) — each configured under Dashboard → Settings → Intelligence in the workspace settings (not in Asset Manager’s own settings, which covers only types, properties, and import/export), with only one active at a time. The active provider also powers the per-asset Context tab for building a living AI understanding from notes and attached documents.

Context Requests

Context requests let you invite people outside your VSEC workspace to contribute information about an asset via a one-time magic link — no VSEC account required. Responses feed directly into AI curation and appear in the asset’s Context tab with external attribution.

How Asset Manager Fits into VSEC

Asset Manager is not a standalone inventory tool — assets are referenced throughout the platform:

  • Risk Manager links security risks to assets and uses Product Owner for default risk assignment.
  • VSEC Test associates test runs with specific assets.
  • Keywords on assets drive relevance matching for threat intelligence.
  • Integrations (e.g. xZETA firmware) can be linked directly to components for SBOM scanning.
